Canvas Art using Paper Napkins

These photos show two examples of canvas art that I have done using pretty paper napkins from gift stores. They are incredibly easy to make.

Materials needed:

  • Decorative Napkins (or any pretty paper that you like)

  • Acrylic Paint

  • Brushes

  • Decoupage glue such as Mod Podge

  • Primed Canvas

  1. 1. Paint your canvas with the background colour of your choice. Allow to dry (about 30 minutes), then add a second coat if desired.

  2. Paper napkins often have more than one ply. If this is the case, separate the layers and keep only the top layer which contains the picture.

  3. Apply a generous coat of glue to the canvas

  4. Carefully place the napkin on the canvas, smoothing it out as much as you can. Don't worry if it looks slightly textured because of the napkin, this adds interest to the final piece. Let Dry.

  5. Seal the canvas with a coat of the glue over the top of the napkin. Once this is dry your canvas is ready to be hung on the wall!
